My Faces obsession comes and goes, and right now it's definitely on. Here's a fun clip from 1971 -- ostensibly it's Rod Stewart as a solo artist doing "Maggie May" on Top of the Pops, but all the boys are up there miming along. (I think only Ron Wood may have played on the actual song.)

Ron and Ronnie Lane's guitars aren't even plugged in, and toward the end they start playing soccer.

Oh, and who's the mandolin "player"? Why are they all drawing attention to him when he seems so reluctant to be there? Because he's BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel, already a shy legend.
